I worked for almost three years at the UCLA Residential Life – Program and Event Management team. This position allowed me to learn more about audiovisual technology and entertainment production, become more familiar with the UCLA community and facilities, and introduced me to people who remain my friends today.
COVID essentially dominated a year and a half of my college experience as I worked and attended university over Zoom. Still, I didn’t let this affect my career and education – I was tenacious and managed to get promoted twice in my time at UCLA. I grew from a part time student worker to a full-time leader amongst my peers.

Creating What’s Next
Though it’s not the focus of this particular video, I was part of a small team responsible for installing over $250k worth of AudioVisual equipment in new UCLA facilities.
These facilities include the Black Bruin Resource Center, Olympic Hall, Centennial Hall, and the Maker Space.
We installed televisions, video systems, projectors, projection screens, speakers, mini-mixers, theatrical lights, and other equipment in these facilities.
Campus-Wide Events
UCLA Program and Event Management are also responsible for providing entertainment, power, decorations, tables, chairs, and other services for campus-wide vents.
These events include the typical move-in and move-out days, new student admission celebrations, sports celebrations, holidays, and special events. They also include special events like touring theatrical companies, corporate events, special performances by major artists, and more
While UCLA Housing is responsible for the physical facilities folks live in, UCLA PEM is responsible for helping maintain campus culture in the residential facilities.
Special Guests
UCLA Student Groups are famous for having artists, film screenings, entertainers, and content creators come to UCLA and either speak or perform.
I have personally worked on a few of these major events, and they have by far been the most disastrously entertaining events I have ever seen live.
Stage rushes, broken speakers, last minute requests for a dozen specialized lighting looks, and performers requesting contracts that include green rooms with bottles of tequila. Not Cody, I hear he was great. I don’t know, I didn’t do this one. I did work Omar Apollo though, but I couldn’t find a post about it anywhere. Possibly because of all the damage…
